There was pandemonium at St. Joseph’s College Sasse Buea following a fire outbreak that razed down one dormitory in the school Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

The affected dormitory is St. Martins with all the students’ mattresses and provision stuff burnt completely.

Cameroon-Info.Net gathered that the cause of the fire is related to an electrical fault.

Our reporter learnt that the dormitory was gutted by fire around 9:30 am while the students were in their classrooms.

“We regret to inform parents, guardians, SOBANS, the Educational Community and Well-wishers, of an unfortunate fire incident in one of our dormitories (St. Martins) at about 9:30 am today 6 January 2021,” Rev. Fr. Armstrong Ndi, Principal of St. Joseph’s College Sasse said in a statement.

He also said no human casualty was recorded in the fire.

“No human casualty was registered since all the students and teachers were in the classrooms,” said Fr. Ndi.  “However, some material damages were recorded.”

The Principal of Sasse College urged parents to stay calm and allow their children to remain in school to continue with their studies, saying measures have been taken to get them settled in other dormitories.

“As of now, everything is under control and the students of that dormitory have been relocated to other dormitories. So we call on parents to remain calm,” Fr. Ndi said. “Based on our preliminary assessment, we suspect it might have been caused by an electrical fault. We thank the administration, SONARA, the military, and all those who helped us put the situation under control. Thanks for your understanding, continuous support, and cooperation.”

"As a bona fide Soban of the 1980 Class and a stakeholder of Sasse College, I am just coming in from the College campus. The fire incident is an accident and classes have been interrupted. The students and administration are calm. The students will resume classes soon," said Barrister John Kameni. "Thanks to the immediate, brilliant, and professional intervention from the Firefighters from Limbe, the rest of the other dormitories were rescued."
