Hon Joseph Mbah Ndam, Vice Speaker at National Assembly and opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF) Member of Parliament for Mbengwi Central (Batibo) says the situation in the North West and South West Regions give him sleepless nights given that his constituency is almost deserted.

He said insecurity from the Ambazonia armed conflict rocking the North West and South West regions and the mass exodus of local populations (his potential voters) have practically erased his constituency. This is true of most, if not all, constituencies in the Northwest and Southwest regions.

Faced with this, the prospect of imminent elections must be traumatizing to SDF politicians seeking elective office. Knowing the hostility of "restorationist" combatants and the near impossibility of holding electoral campaigns, and also the absence of potential voters, chances of SDF running and winning even in its own stronghold are slim. Added to the understanding that the ruling CPDM can always have its way of crafting a semblance of elections and produce "results" which the Constitutional Council will probably validate based on ELECAM reports which, by law, are the only authentic report, a CPDM clean-sweep is almost certain.

Mbah Ndam laments that: «My constituency does not exist any longer because the boys who have now become ‘Amba’ soldiers are at war with Cameroon Defense Forces since President Biya declared war as his own solution to the Anglophone crisis. People have been killed and houses burnt down. It is now very frightful to live within my constituency. The regime has failed to propose an alternative solution that could at least comfort the warring factions to think that they could keep down their weapons because there is something promising.»

The SDF kingpin regrets that this unfortunate situation has gone out of hand and political parties are no longer secured to hold any meeting in the North West and South West regions.

His words: «It is worsened by the fact that instead of going in for lasting solutions to end the Anglophone crisis, Mr Biya always goes in for superficial ones that produces very little or no impact on the ground such as the upcoming putting in place of regional councils. I say so because, the Regional Council unlike the National Assembly, will have no legislative power as it will rather be supervised by the Executive Arm of government, that is, the governor or the representative of the state, implying that whatever deliberations made, will have to be approved by a supervisory authority.»

Mbah Ndam also chided the speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Cavayé Yéguié Djibril for sweeping the Anglophone problem under the carpet as he closed the first ordinary session for 2019. Mbah Ndam wondered aloud how government claims it is winning the war when he cannot go to his native Batibo over security concerns.

He called on government to initiate dialogue with all parties, failure which he will be left with the impression that Anglophones have no place in Cameroon.
