Jean Fai Bungong, the civilian beaten to near-death by security forces in Ndu on February 11, 20201 says he is responding to treatment.

In a video clip published Wednesday, February 17, 2021, the victim of human rights violation from state forces saluted the timely intervention of Hon. Ta Nformi Ngala Gerard, Member of Parliament for Donga Mantung Centre.

“I am Jean Fai Bungong. I am the person who was tormented by the military in Ndu. I know that the situation created fear in the hearts of many who thought that I am dead. I am still alive because I have been put on treatment. The government has been struggling to ensure that I come back to life. Although I have pains now, I believe that I will be well again after taking the drugs prescribed. By God’s grace, I will be strong again,” said the victim.

Fai extended special thanks to Hon. Ngala Gerard providing him succor in his time of need.

“I thank Hon. Ngala Gerard who has shown a lot of concern towards me. He has taken good care of me. He has been the one taking me from one hospital to another. Although my health is yet to stabilize, I remain indebted to Hon. Ngala. I pray God continues to give him the strength and the means so he can help others like me,” Fai said. “I am happy. I did not have a phone. Hon. Ngala has bought a phone for me. He has also done so many other good things for me. He ensures that I eat on time and I have the liberty to discuss with him at all times.”

Two gendarmes, two soldiers, and four police officers are currently under detention at the Territorial Gendarmerie Brigade in Ndu for beating Fai to near-death.

“On Saturday, 13 February 2021, an amateur video appeared on the web, presenting a man being interrogated, then assaulted and severely beaten by some elements of the Defense and Security Forces. The scene took place in the afternoon of Thursday, 11 February 2021, in the locality of Ndu, Donga-Mantung Division, North West Region,” military spokesman Navy Captain Atonfack Guemo said on Monday.

The government has said the erring security forces will face the law given that they breached their rules of engagement and violated human rights.
