Cameroon - Media Attack: Technician, Pidgin News Broadcaster of Radio Hot Cocoa Bamenda Abducted

Akum Emmanuel, radio technician kidnapped in Bamenda Facebook
Members of the Cameroon Journalists Trade Union (CJTU), have launched a nationwide alert for the disappearance of a technician and former pidgin news broadcaster of Radio Hot Cocoa Bamenda, on Saturday November 16, 2019.

On various social media platforms, they are calling on anyone who is responsible for his kidnapping to release him with immediate effect.

According to the Management of the radio house, Akum Emmanuel technically assisted a top political program of the radio that Saturday morning and left for his family home in Mankon.

It is reported that his parents didn't see him the day he left while others said he was allegedly taken by some unidentified gun men.

" Let me officially inform that Emmanuel Akum has disappeared between RHC and the inside Mankon where his family is located. He left RHC Saturday at 14h00 heading for an appointment with his parents. He never arrived destination.", said General Manager Gideon Taka.

Akum fondly called Pablo, was the Chief Technical office at Radio Hot Cocoa and sometimes assisted in presenting the pidgin news. He has been serving the radio for over 14 years and his absence has greatly affected out put at the media house.

The President of CJTU North West, Bakah Derrick and the national president Denis Nkwebo, are mobilising colleagues to press for his release.

Following the ongoing crisis in the Anglophone regions, attacks on the media have multiplied. Media houses are pressurised to propagate both opinions of government and armed separatists who don't get along.
