Results of the first ever senatorial elections in Cameroon have been published bringing to light the 70 pioneer elected senators in the history of the country. They were elected seven from each of the ten regions last April 14.

Since the senate in Cameroon is composed of 100 senators, the remaining 30 will be appointed by the President of the Republic in not more than 10 days according to the country’s electoral code. Results of the elections which witnessed a voter turnout of 98.25 percent were proclaimed Monday April 29 by the Supreme Court sitting in place of the Constitutional Council. It was chaired by the Court’s President Alexis Dipanda Mouelle and attended by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie, Prime Minister, Philemon Yang, Ministers of State, Ministers, Secretaries of State, Members of the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries.
