Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlain, Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Meme Division and Nwafua Lawrence Forwang, SDO for Ndian, all in the South West Region, have advised civil servants against boycotting Sunday’s polls.

Following letter no. 005/L/G40/C25/ND/SP addressed to All Divisional Delegates and Service Heads in Ndian, the Principals of GTTC, GBHS and GTHS Mundemba, the Ndian SDO obliges all civil servants to be at their duty posts and to effectively vote on Sunday.

Titled “Effective presence in post” and dated February 5, 2020, Nwafua Forwang writes: “In execution of hierarchical instructions, I have the honour to inform you that all of you, together with your respective collaborators must be present in Mundemba and take active part by voting during the twin elections of February 9, 2020.”

He furthers that: “Those who will not adhere to these pertinent instructions will face administrative sanctions. In order not to be considered as an accomplice in the non-execution of this instruction, all Divisional Delegates and Service Heads shall forward to my office latest on February 11, 2020 the names and matricule numbers of all their collaborators who will not be present at their place of work as well as take part in the said elections.”

On January 31, Meme SDO Ntou’ou Ndong said all those who will fail to be at their duty posts until February 12, 2020 will be considered as having resigned.

“Honour to inform you that in execution of high instructions from hierarchy, all public agents in your services including you shall effectively bet at their duty posts from the date of signature of this message till February 12, 2020. Defaulters shall be considered as having resigned. Unexpected checks shall personally be carried out by myself to that effect,” said Ntou’ou Ndong in a fax to all Divisional Officers and Divisional Delegates in Meme Division.

Parliamentary and municipal elections will take place in Cameroon on February 9, 2020 amid threats by separatists. Separatist leaders imposed a six-day lockdown from February 6 to 12 in the troubled Anglophone regions where they are fighting to create an independent nation in a bid to stop the elections from taking place. They also seek to stop National Youths Day Celebrations on February 11, 2020.

Security and administrative authorities have thus taken measures to ensure that government business goes on hitch free.
