Some seven soldiers accused of killing two women and their children in the Far North region in July 2018, will face the military tribunal.

The information about their trial was revealed on Monday June 25, by the Communication officer at the Ministry of Defense.

The entire nation was in shock and outrage when a video, showing how these suspected soldiers, dressed in military outfit, blindfolded these women and shot them along with their children.

The soldiers are charged with joint participation in murder, breach of regulations and conspiracy to commit the said crimes.

"Cameroon does not compromise over behaviour that is incompatible with relating to war, human rights and the protection of people and their belongings", said MINDEF's spokesperson.

The government had earlier rejected that the video was real, calling it 'fake news', and claimed it didn't occur in Cameroon. The former Communication Minister, Issa Tchiroma Bakary claimed the video was done in Mali.

Meantime, an investigative team from the BBC, proved otherwise, stating the video was carried out in the Far North region, plagued by cross-border raids of Islamist militants, Boko Haram.

The seven soldiers were arrested in August 2018, after the international community put pressure on the government to probe into the affair and arrest all those responsible.

Many Cameroonians have been wondering what steps government was taking to see the culprits of such acts punished. Their expectations have been reassured by the Ministry of Defense, which states that they would face the military tribunal in the days ahead.
