The rains began as early as 3am Tuesday and lasted for about five hours plunging the entire OPEC city of Limbe into chaos as streets were filled water while houses collapsed.
Denizens remained indoors amid the unfavorable atmosphere; vehicles were submerged while properties got soaked.
Worst hit areas included; Mabeta, Motowo, Church Street, Manga Williams Avenue, Clerk's Quarters, Mbonjo and Down Beach among others.
In Mbonjo, a locality in Down Beach Limbe, houses were reduced to ground, three persons declared dead. Others who went missing were later found but some had died.
Late Tuesday, another corpse was discovered from the debris after his house collapsed with him inside. The Senior Divisional Officer for Fako , Emmanuel Engamba Ledoux visited the sites to assess the damages.
In other areas, roofs of houses were blown away by winds, while some had their doors taken away by floods.Beds, Chairs, Television sets among others have been completely destroyed.
Floods in Limbe have been constant and on each occasion hundredths suffer the consequences of poor geographical location of houses, poor drainage system among others.
In 2013 just like in 2014, houses were inundated and many deaths recorded but Government response to these natural disasters has not been the best.
It is true that the government has warned locals against building houses in hilly and dangerous areas, the follow up to see into it that they respect the order, has not been made.
Locals have continued building houses in dangerous zones and those marked for evacuation have not done so. The situation is becoming critical and any rainfall in Limbe may just be another time bomb.
