30 clubs, both of the Regional and Divisional Leagues of the Southwest Region that were expected to battle for the four tickets to represent the region in the round of 64 for the prestigious Cup of Cameroon, have had the matches postponed till further notice, due to the security challenges in the region.

The postponement comes following the kidnapping of two coaches in the North West region. Coach Emmanuel Ndoumbe Bosso of Yong Sports Academy and Coach Augustine Choupo of PWD Bamenda have all been kidnapped and released.

Ndoumbe Bosso was abducted by unidentified armed men early Tuesday, March 19, 2019 as he stood close to his car, while Augustine Choupo was kidnapped on April 5, 2019 at the club’s training centre at Big Mankon, Bamenda.

The kidnap of Choupo was even more dramatic. According to an eyewitness, two boys, armed with pistols and Dane guns, came into the field and kidnapped the Coach, while others waited outside on motorbikes. The kidnappers are said to have disappeared with the Coach to an unknown destination.

Soon after his release, Ndoumbe Bosso left Yong Sport for Coton Sport. Augustine Choupo has rather chosen to stay with PWD Bamenda, securing a win against New Star.

In a similar story, 20 University of Buea Football boys were kidnapped and later released, making it three kidnaps that have affected the football sector in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, in a month.
