Workers of brewery company, Brasseries Du Cameroun (SABC products), who lost their jobs as a fallout of the ongoing unrest in the North West and South West regions, are preparing to go on a protest, after spending months of joblessness.

Tired of staying at home and face with financial obligations, they met over the weekend behind closed doors in Bamenda, where they strategised on how to go about fighting against unemployment, caused by the ongoing war in the Anglophone regions.

One of them.who talked to us in anonymity said they were tired of staying at home and wanted government to call for dialogue, in order for calm to return in the region, so that they can continue earning a living.

Armed separatists who want to establish an independent state called Ambazonia, over the two English speaking regions of Cameroon, declared SABC products in Bamenda contraband, and have been attacking suppliers and retailers who dare sell the product.

Some of these separatists had declared that the company was an enemy to Anglophones, and claimed top government officials owned shares in the company.

Early this year, a video showing separatists torturing an SABC retailer in Bali, North West region went viral on internet, with the Human Rights Watch condemning the violence.

The hands of a detailer in SABC products in Chomba, a village in the North West region, was chopped off by armed separatists who accused him of going against their orders. Due to this, activities of the company were halted, sending off hundreds of workers back to the quarters, unemployed.

In the North West region, SABC operates a commercial centre in Bamenda, with four divisional headquarters in Kumbo, Nkambe, Wum and Fundong.

More than 400 people are employed directly with the company in the North West and they are engaged in supplying drinks directly to retailers at their door steps. 200 of these workers are based in Bamenda, 50 each are situated in communities where the four depots are.

Over 3000 persons retail SABC products in the North West. In the South West, their main centres are in Ombe, Kumba, Mamfe and so on.
