Since 2016, school resumption has been timid in the North West and South West regions, following calls of boycott by armed separatists, who want government to grant the Anglophone regions independence. Being government’s mouth piece in the region, to governor since Monday has gone through fiercest battles along the Bamenda-Nkambe road, where he talked to the population on the importance of respecting children’s rights to education.
The convoy of governor Lele is said to have been attacked thrice since Monday, to and fro Nkambe, Donga-Mantung division. Thanks to the presence of a deployed mixed team of soldiers who is accompanying his convoy, he has been able to take the message of peace, dialogue and back-to-school, to the populations of Nkambe and this Tuesday in Kumbo, Bui Division.
The road linking Kumbo to Nkambe has for over six months been called a dead trap, as armed separatists have created control posts to carry out their activities, as well as the military. Many say the town of Nkambe is more peaceful and attacks free, as compared to other areas hit by the crisis.
The population is less supportive of the activities of so-called Amba Boys. Reasons why NW governor appreciated the population for the steps they have taken against terrorist acts.
Governor Lele is expected to be in Mbengwi on Wednesday, where reports say there have been warning signs of gunshots since his visit was announced. The governor and his entourage intend to go through all the divisional headquarters considered by some to be unsecured, in order to dwell on children’s rights to education.
