Acting as Convener of the All Southern Cameroons People’s Conference (ASCPC), Dr. Fontem in a letter says he has just been “awoken to shocking developments that are going on in the Interim Government of Southern Cameroons (Ambazonia). He says “at this critical moment in the life of this liberation struggle, the quaking of the largest institution does not augur well for our quest for independence”.
Fontem who was arrested on January 17, 2017 moments after the Consortium was banned and later freed by a presidential decision of August 30, 2017 says the decision by “H.E. Sisiku Julius Ayuk Tabe to dissolve the caretaker cabinet while still in prison cannot be treated with levity because it translates the inner frustration which has pervaded our body politic for some time and has only found expression through the president now.”
The university don says there is a need for a speedy and transparent resolution of this nascent crisis so that it does not impede the goals they set for themselves in Washington during the All Southern Cameroons People’s General Conference of March 29-30, 2019.
Fontem writes: “In line with his spirit of the resolutions of the ASCPC, notably the resolution instituting a conflict resolution mechanism, and on account of the process still going on, I have consulted with SCLC members, community leaders in Southern Cameroons and in the diaspora as well as some previous and present cabinet members, and hereby announce the following temporal measures intended to bring peace and stability within the Interim Government and to ensure its eventual smooth and proper functioning in the Southern Cameroons Revolution:
“Dr. Ikome Sako’s acting interim cabinet is hereby suspended although the Country Coordinators, RC, ASC and DoD shall continue to function.
“A meeting has been convened for Saturday May 11, 2019. The details of the meeting will be disclosed only to representatives of the Sisiku Cabinet and Dr. Ikome Sako’s dissolved cabinet.
“H.E. Sisiku Julius Ayuk Tabe and Dr. Ikome Sako shall each be represented at the meeting by key persons.
“The Interim Government is hereby suspended by the Southern Cameroons Liberation Council until this crisis is resolved.”
Fontem says it is their believe that the All Southern Cameroons People’s General Conference will be able to find a lasting solution to the internal wrangling that has plagued the Interim Government for the last twelve months and affected the general pursuit of the aspirations of their people. He extended an invitation to other organisation son the sidelines, urging them to join the SCLC and make a positive impact now.
“My fellow citizens, at his trying moment of our lives, when so many of our people have been killed, many more rendered homeless and too many displaced in camps, forests or in other cities and prisons, we cannot afford the pain of disunity and instability. I ask for your fervent prayers as we embark on the onerous task of stabilising this ship, the Interim Government. May God give wisdom and the sincerity of heart to the SCLC, other conference colleagues and me as we consult and work ardently to resolve this crisis peaceably and in the true spirit of national solidarity,” Fontem Neba ends his May 2 ‘the people’s response to the crisis in the Interim Government’.
