After 25 years spent at the helm of the company, André Siaka is stepping down as Managing Director of Société Anonyme Breweries of Cameroon (SABC), a subsidiary of Groupe Castel, in Douala at the end of 2013. His departure, though not yet official, is not surprising, since he had announced to the board earlier on. Nothing is said about his replacement but colleagues tip Francis Batista, French, as the future GM, the state-owned bilingual daily Cameroon Tribune said on Monday September 9, 2013. André Siaka, 64, has spent almost his entire career at the SABC. Engineer, a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, the former student of Lieberman, started off at Societe Generale in Paris from 1974 to 1976. He began his career in the Brasseries du Cameroon in 1977. He soon became manager of the bottling plant, assistant branch manager, branch manager, assistant general manager, then general manager since 1988 and Managing Director since 2005. Also, Mr Siaka is vice president of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), and former President of cartel of enterprises of Cameroon (Gicam). With a turnover of 468 billion francs CFA in 2012, SABC is now the second taxpayer of the State, after the oil sector, in absolute value. It has 3,000 employees, all subsidiaries combined.
